Why Is Your Health on the Back Burner?

Personal Trainer for FitnessToday, let’s talk about your needs versus your wants.

Most people, when faced with financial issues, problems, challenges, will start cutting anything that is healthy out of their budget.  Why is that?  Your health is a need!  For the life of me, I cannot figure out why maintaining health and physical fitness is the first to go. I know people (as we all do) will cut out gym memberships, change the types of foods they buy (more processed foods rather than fresh), drop their personal trainer, or massage therapist, etc. However, they never seem to cut out things like movie nights, going out to eat, or shopping every weekend at Walmart, Target, or any other store that might have low prices.  Advertisers and marketers make you think you need everything in the store.  People go out and drive everywhere under the sun and waste gas because they are bored sitting at home.

When people are hit with some financial issues or challenges, they will keep all the movie channels for their TV.  Most people will even drop their insurance before they would drop their channels.

It is sad how what keeps us healthy is considered the luxury.

You do not have to cut the healthy lifestyle out of your life.  You can cut down the number of visits with your personal trainer.  You can find a cheaper gym membership.  You can shop with coupons or better yet, grow a garden.  Yes, you can grow a garden in pots on your patio or balcony.

There are many things you can do to change your budget by removing things that are only a want and keeping those things that are a need.  Your health and fitness is a need!  You should be keeping those things that benefit your health and fitness.  If your health goes, your financial situation will be ever more so dire.

Go for a walk versus getting in the car and wasting gas.  Buy fresh rather than processed.  Work out with your trainer a couple times a week, rather than eating out three or four times a week.  There are a multitude of ways you can adjust a budget to keep eating healthy and stay physically fit.

Leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts as to why you believe when people are faced with a downturn in their financial situation, they will let go of those items that will maintain their health (exercise and healthy food) first.  Why do they hold onto their “wants” such as a hundred movie channels on TV, eating out three times a week, going to the movies once a week, and the list goes on?  Why do you think they don’t put a higher priority on keeping healthy first?
